A region seed was on the line as East Central College (7-3) took on State Fair Community College in an important match moved to Union Middle School turf field due to heavy rain in the morning. The change of venue didn’t stiffle the Falcons home field advantage as they took full control of the match in the 2-1 win.

The Falcons were able to control the middle of the park and had a majority of the possession in the second half. ECC struck first in the second half on a long range, left-footed curling shot from Scott Peggie that hugged the inside of the left post.

The magic 65th minute of the match when a lot of players start getting fatigued had State Fair on the offensive and the Roadrunners got the equalizer to notch the score at one. The game was well played tactically by the Falcons as they had three chances hit off either the post or crossbar. Eventually, Joao Pimenta broke down the left sideline to beat two players by cutting into the box and laying a ball off to Jacob Sauvage who tucked in the game winner in the 85th minute. Sauvage’s high school teammate from Pacific, Bailey Hoehne recorded a shutout in the first half as he combined with Pierocarlo Previte for the 2-1 win in goal for East Central.

ECC will have the #1 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 16 Tournament and host all games through the district championship as long as the team keeps winning.
